AuSPEN Conference


You are invited:

 The 43rd AuSPEN Annual Scientific Meeting will be held on the Gold Coast from 16- 18th November at the Royal Pines Conference Centre, Gold Coast. The theme of this year’s conference is “Collaboration in Clinical Nutrition – Evidence Based Nutrition for Improving Patient Outcomes”.

The conference program will feature concurrent workshops on Thursday 16th November including two ESPEN LLL courses: Nutrition Support in Gastrointestinal Diseases, and Nutrition Support in Cancer. There will also be a paediatrics workshop, and an implementation science workshop. The main program on Friday and Saturday will feature plenary sessions and symposia on a wide range of nutrition support and clinical nutrition topics (including enteral and parenteral nutrition in overweight and obesity, enhanced recovery after surgery, nutrition in oncology, cultural considerations in nutrition support, gastroenterology and microbiota, panel discussions with case-studies on collaboration, and more!) and of course the AuSPEN free paper oral presentations and poster display.




Prof Dan Waitzberg Linetzky, from Sao Paulo, Brazil. 

Prof Waitzberg is a Gastrointestinal Surgeon, Director of Laboratory of Investigation in Metabolism and Nutrition in Digestive Surgery at FMUSP, and Clinical Director of Nutrition Services University of Sao Paulo Medical School. His main area of research is clinical nutrition, with special interest in inflammatory response, malnutrition, immunonutrition and enteral and parenteral nutrition in the context of surgery and cancer. Prof Waitzberg will give a number of presentations in the main program.


A/Prof Stanislaw Klek, from Krakow, Poland. 

Prof Klek is a Surgical Oncologist.  He is the Chairman of the Polish Society for Parenteral, Enteral Nutrition & Metabolism (POLSPEN) and the Chair-Elect of the International Section of ASPEN. Prof. Klek is also an associate editor of Clinical Nutrition and head of the Oncological Surgery Unit and HPN unit at Stanley Dudrick’s Memorial Hospital in Skawina, Poland. His research interests include clinical nutrition, metabolism, surgery, oncology and ultrasonography. As an accredited ESPEN LLL teacher, he will contribute to teaching the ESPEN LLL sessions; as well as present in the main program.


Prof Isabel Correia, from Brazil (via videolink). 

Prof Correia is a Professor of Surgery at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais and Chief of the Nutrition Therapy Team at the Alfa Institute of Gastroenterology and Surgery of the University Hospital, Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Her research includes the nutritional needs of patients with cancer and undergoing liver transplant. Prof Correia will join us at AuSPEN via videolink, to present in the main program.

Registration opens 1
st June 2017. Registration options are available for this year’s conference for 1,2 and the full 3-day program, with substantial discounts for AuSPEN members, and a special additional discount for SuperEarly bird registrations before June 30th.  Registration cost information will be released soon.

The Venue and Accommodation

Accommodation at competitive rates will be available on-site at the Royal Pines Resort, which is connected to the conference centre. For those staying elsewhere on the Gold Coast or commuting from Brisbane, there is public transport available as well as a shuttle service run by Royal Pines.

Abstract submissions 
Call for abstracts will open on 1st June, so start thinking about writing up your work for presentation in the Gold Coast now! The AuSPEN prizes will be awarded for the best presentations; and a limited number of Conference Grants will be available to eligible abstract presenters.
