RESEARCH GRANTSThe Australasian Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (AuSPEN) offers research grants for assistance in performing small research projects. Preference will be given to projects in the field of clinical nutrition and successful research grants will involve projects which are of the highest standard of scientific merit and which also meet appropriate ethical standards as set out in the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NH&MRC) National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research involving Humans. Applications for the AuSPEN research grants will be considered only if the chief investigator and the majority of the co-investigators are members of AuSPEN. Grants to the value of $5000.00 as a single payment may be awarded. Principles of Study GrantsThe following principles apply for the research grants and will form the basis for how the applications will be assessed and ranked. Please note these requirements when filling in your application form. Scientific Merit Ethical standards The Chief Investigator must be an AuSPEN member. The majority of the co-investigators must be AuSPEN members.
PHILOSOPHY AND GUIDELINESApplications will be considered for clinical research projects (ie. human subjects). Multi disciplinary research is encouraged but the chief investigator (and the majority of the coinvestigators) must be members of AuSPEN. Institutional Ethics Committee approval must be obtained. If this is not done prior to the funding application, funds will not be made available until this is done. Projects should be of direct relevance to clinical nutrition and of a high scientific standard. Funding for salaries and consumables is acceptable. Equipment purchase may be funded but only where it is clearly necessary for the project. Recipients of funding must provide an annual progress report (until study completion) to the AuSPEN Council (submitted c/o AuSPEN Secretary in September of each year) until study completion. The results of the research should be presented at an Annual Scientific Meeting of AuSPEN. Any presentations or publications related to this research project must include an acknowledgement of the funding provided by AuSPEN. Applications for funding must be submitted by 31st July on the prescribed form. Six hard copies and one electronic copy should be submitted to the AuSPEN Secretary.
