2025 Sharon Carey

Sharon is currently the Manager of Nutrition & Dietetics and works as a part of the team in the Intestinal Failure Service at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. She completed her PhD in 2014, and now holds an Associate Professor position at the University of Sydney, including the supervision of PhD students. Sharon is co-chair of the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation Home enteral Nutrition Network. 

Sharon is the previous President of AuSPEN, stepping down at the 2025 Conference. Sharon remains on the council for AuSPEN as the Chair of the Home Parenteral Nutrition Committee.  

With a passion for advancing care in Intestinal Rehabilitation, Sharon has championed the development of the National Home Parenteral Nutrition Registry — a landmark initiative that strengthens data transparency, improves patient outcomes, and elevates national standards of care. Her ongoing work in the GLP-1 analogue space continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible for patients with complex gastrointestinal needs.  

Under Sharon’s guidance, AuSPEN has deepened interdisciplinary collaboration across nutrition, medicine, and allied health, amplified the voice of parenteral and enteral nutrition in national policy and research and fostered a culture of equity, innovation, and evidence-based practice.  


2024 Azmat Ali

Azmat retired in 2023 but prior to this was the Intestinal Failure dietitian at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and an Advanced Practicing Dietitian. She was on AuSPEN council and the executive team for 9 years as the treasurer, managing many budgetary challenges. She was a key member in the development of many projects including the Intestinal Failure Model of Care work, HPN registry and development of the parenteral nutrition trace element and vitamin supplementation guidelines. She led many ESPEN Life Long Learning sessions as a certified tutor and was dedicated to supporting and mentoring people working in the area of Intestinal Failure. She was also a strong advocate for AuSPEN, and her inclusive, encouraging nature led to many people joining the organization to take on key positions to further the work done by AuSPEN. 


2023 Ibolya Nyulasi

Ibolya Nyulasi is an internationally known clinical dietitian with more than 40 years of experience in dietetic and academic leadership. She has a wide range of interests including nutrition support, food standards in hospital, quality and safety. 

She twice held the position of President of AuSPEN creating close collaborations between AuSPEN and other international nutrition societies. She has served as Australasian Editor for the International Journal of Nutrition for 10 years. 

She has a long-standing interest in enteral nutrition both for inpatients and community-based services. She was part of the Victorian Government Ministerial working party for funding home nutrition, subsequently has been involved with developing international and national guidelines on HEN services. 

In 2016 she received the Career Achievement Award by the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN). She currently holds adjunct Professorial appointments with both Monash and Latrobe universities. Ibolya was made Lifetime member of AuSPEN for services and leadership of the society.
