AuSPEN Grant Applications Close
The Australasian Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (AuSPEN) offers grants to society members for assistance in undertaking projects of significance to AuSPEN. The AuSPEN Research Committee has awarded successful grants since 2006 to conduct projects of significance to the field of clinical nutrition. Clinical significance is determined by the potential of a project idea to further our understanding of clinical nutrition, impact service delivery, or improve nutrition support practices with a primary focus on artificial nutrition support.
AuSPEN offers grants for novice researchers (a clinician who does not have an established research track record or a higher degree in research) to assist them to conduct clinical projects of significance to the field of clinical nutrition. In 2025, there is a maximum of up to $30,000 (ex-GST) to be offered to one or more Novice Researcher Project(s).

AuSPEN Conference Abstract Submissions Close
The Australasian Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (AuSPEN) Council warmly invites the submission of abstracts for presentation at the 50th AuSPEN Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) in Sydney from 6th-8th November 2025. Accepted abstracts will be offered either a 10-minute oral presentation in the free paper session, a ‘rapid-fire’ 3-minute oral presentation with a poster, or a stand-alone hanging poster on display in the exhibition hall.
AuSPEN encourages abstract submissions reporting on basic and clinical nutrition research, and clinical service enhancement projects in nutrition.

AuSPEN EOI: Acute Liver disease Clinical Practice Guidelines Close
AuSPEN Clinical Practice Committee invites expressions of interest from experienced and motivated clinicians across our multidisciplinary membership to join the AuSPEN Clinical Practice Committee.
This working group will be responsible for developing evidence-based clinical nutrition guidelines for adult patients with decompensated cirrhosis, with a focus on assessment, management, and evaluation within acute and ambulatory care settings.
Over an 24-month period, the group will collaborate to produce a clinical guidance document that reflects best practice in the nutritional care of this complex patient population.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Essential: Minimum of two years' clinical experience in ICU, gastrointestinal, or liver disease care (excluding subacute or rehabilitation settings).
Highly desirable: At least one peer-reviewed publication related to nutrition and liver disease.
Participation requires a commitment of approximately 4–6 hours per month over the 24-month project timeline.

AuSPEN EOI: Environmental Sustainability in Clinical Nutrition Close
AuSPEN is looking for enthusiastic and experienced clinicians from across our broad, multidisciplinary membership to join the AuSPEN Clinical Practice Committee working on the development of a position statement on environmental sustainability in clinical nutrition.
KEY OBJECTIVES:
Develop a statement that acknowledges the need for decarbonisation of healthcare and the clinical nutrition profession
Identify key areas in which clinical nutrition most impacts the environment
Identify opportunities for decarbonisation
Once complete, depending on interest and experience, the group may then go on to develop a clinical practice toolkit or guideline on environmentally sustainable clinical nutrition practice.
AuSPEN is looking for a range of clinicians with interest and experience in one or more of the following:
Environmental Sustainability
Implementation Science
Change management
Experience from various clinical areas
The time commitment is expected to be approximately 4-6 hours per month for 12 months for the initial position statement.

AuSPEN EOI: HPN Governance Steering Committee Close
AuSPEN is looking for AuSPEN members interested in joining the AuSPEN HPN Governance Steering Committee. The committee is responsible for overseeing the management of the AuSPEN HPN registry, and provide governance over AuSPEN HPN projects, including development of models of care and guidelines. We are looking for AuSPEN members across Australia and New Zealand with a strong interest in intestinal failure and HPN. The committee meets 6 times per year via video conferencing.

AuSPEN Intestinal Failure & Rehabilitation Workshop 2024
Please join us for the running of the 2-day AuSPEN Intestinal Failure and rehabilitation Workshop, which is being held 8-9th May in Sydney. The workshop is aimed to provide a multidisciplinary update on managing Type 2 and Type 3 Intestinal Failure, including those requiring Home Parenteral Nutrition. We are thrilled to announce Professor Simon Gabe, Director and Specialist Gastroenterologist along with Kathleen McGrath (Intestinal Failure Dietitian) from the St Marks Intestinal Failure team will be key presenters for the workshop, along with local experts.

AuSPEN 2018 "Building The Bridge"
The 44th AuSPEN Annual Scientific Meeting will be held in Sydney from 29th November -1st December at Sheraton on the Park. The theme of this year’s conference is “Building the Bridge – Building excellence in clinical nutrition”. This conference will be focused on building a bridge between evidence and practice, incorporating patient-reported outcomes.
The conference program will feature concurrent workshops on Thursday 29th November including ESPEN LLL courses, and a paediatric workshop.
The main program on Friday and Saturday will feature plenary sessions and symposia on a wide range of nutrition support and clinical nutrition topics (including functional gut disorders, ICU, intestinal failure and oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant), a great debate, Ted Talks and more! And of course the AuSPEN free paper oral presentations and poster display.

LLL Program and Workshops
The Life Long Learning (LLL) programme in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism is an effective educational programme for medical doctors and health specialists offering training on-line and at live courses, by variety of innovative training methodologies and resources.
LLL programme in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism is based on an educational curriculum offering 120 training modules (100 are already available on-line) created and peer reviewed by recognised European experts.
The 2018 conference program on Thursday 29th November includes ESPEN LLL courses, and a paediatric workshop.
